Crew Positions

Our Senior Sailing Team is at the heart of what we do.
Our volunteer crew members (sometimes known as the afterguard) support the work of our charity, Blyth Tall Ship. Sometimes you will be working with trainees and use your skills and experience to teach them and broaden their horizons. Sometimes we will be doing public voyages which are important to our fundraising model. While unremunerated, these positions are extremely rewarding. See a testimonial below from one of our 2021 watch leaders.
There is no age limit on these positions so if you can climb a 2m ladder and feel fit enough please join us and pass on your skills to a younger generation.

“I’ve just been reflecting on the week with the trainees and I thought I would share my thoughts. The trainees were a credit to themselves. They came on as young lads but left as young men, they all gave everything to the training, nothing was too much for them, they were so respectful to the skipper, crew, and the ship. There was no problem with the duties they were given and they carried them all out with a smile! Overall I think it was a great week where everyone worked together and got on together. For me this is what Blyth Tall Ship is all about and I can’t speak highly enough of the project and the people involved! When I asked the trainees about how they enjoyed the week I had nothing but positive responses; most said it was the best experience they have ever had. What we achieved that week with the skipper and crew was nothing short of brilliant! Long may this continue!”
